Spieth, who won the season’s first two majors (Masters, U.S. Open), then finished fourth at the British Open and second in the PGA Championship, is in first place in the FedEx Cup standings by a mile, 1,500 points clear of second-place Jason Day. The top five players heading into the Tour Championship in Atlanta have a chance to win the Cup, and with the lead he’s amassed, Spieth should be among that group.

Bettors may be hesitant to back the young Texan in futures wagering, however, since the overall leader heading into the first round has won the championship only twice in its short nine-year history—Tiger Woods in 2007 and 2009.
Day is the second favorite to hoist the Cup, at 6-to-1 odds, followed by Rory McIlroy (8-to-1), Dustin Johnson (10-to-1) and Justin Rose (12-to-1).
For the Barclays this week, bettors will like the 12-to-1 odds on Dustin Johnson, who won the tournament last time it was played at Enfield in 2011. Matt Kuchar, who finished second to Johnson that year, is priced at 25-to-1. PGA Championship winner Jason Day will also see action at odds of 8-to-1, as the in-form Aussie finished tied for 13th in the 2011 rain-shortened event.
McIlroy will bypass this week’s stop to rest his ankle. Also skipping the event are Retief Goosen and Francesco Molinari.
Noticeably absent in wagering choices is Tiger Woods, who failed to make the FedEx Cup after finishing 178th in the standings.
