Now a Danish company has figured out a way to relieve weary travelers of their jingling burden and to relieve their thirst as well: Faxe Jyske Breweries has developed a coin-operated beer machine that accepts Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, German and English coins. The machine, which has been in operation in Copenhagen’s airport since last spring, dispenses variable amounts of Faxe beer depending on the amount of money the traveler deposits. This automatic bartender can be easily modified to accept U.S. and most other existing currencies, and a simple mechanical adjustment will compensate for major exchange-rate fluctuations. The experiment was an immediate success, and the company plans to export its invention to Austria and possibly Germany. If someone were to add an attachment that listens to your troubles in five different languages, the airport bartenders might really begin to worry about the competition.
