The FedEx Cup — used to determine playing privileges for the ensuing PGA Tour season — is open to the top 125 players entering the Northern Trust event; those numbers will be whittled down to 70 and 30 players for the BMW and Tour championships, respectively. Justin Thomas, who has three wins on the season and four top-10 finishes in his last seven starts, holds a commanding lead in the standings with 2,458 points. The second-place golfer, PGA Championship winner Collin Morikawa, has 1,902.
Thomas is among the favorites to win this week’s event, but he’ll be joined by an incredible field that includes Bryson DeChambeau, Rory McIlroy, defending champion Patrick Reed and more, among others. And, of course, there’s always Tiger Woods, who is in pursuit of that elusive record-breaking 83rd PGA Tour win.

Northern Trust purse
The purse for this year’s Northern Trust has received a slight bump: $9.5 million, up from 2019’s $9.25 million mark. That naturally will result in larger payouts for the winners of this week’s tournament. Last season, Patrick Reed made off with $1.665 million; the winner this year stands to make $1.71 million.
Northern Trust odds, picks for 2020
World No. 9 Patrick Reed enters the 2020 Northern Trust as its defending champion, but the world’s No. 9 golfer is far from the top of the odds list to take home the Northern Trust Trophy. That would be Bryson DeChambeau, Justin Thomas and Rory McIlroy, all tied at +1200 odds. They are followed up by World No. 1 Jon Rahm (+1400) and Dustin Johnson and Xander Schauffele, both at +1800 apiece. Reed comes in at No. 9 on the odds list at +2500 overall. Other notables include Morikawa (+2000), Brooks Koepka (+2800) and Tiger Woods (+3300).
