The former Vanderbilt Commodore was at the Diamondbacks’ extended spring training facility playing in a simulated game when a pitch from Yoan Lopez smacked him in the face.

While the extent of his injuries is unknown, he reportedly didn’t sustain any facial fractures.

Swanson was expected to start for a minor league team Sunday night, but was not listed in the lineup. 

He signed with the Diamondbacks on July 17, the signing deadline, to a reported $6.5 million. He helped the Commodores to a runner-up finish at the College World Series in May and a national championship last year.
