The Brooklyn rapper confirmed she was expecting her first child with husband Kenneth Petty in a series of Instagram posts on Monday. “#Preggers,” read the caption of one photo of Minaj keeling while cradling her bulging baby bump.
Minaj had fans speculating that she may be on the road to motherhood when she joked about suffering from morning sickness during a Twitter question-and-answer session back in May. A fan asked the chart-topping rapper if she had cooked anything while lockdown over the coronavirus were in effect. Minaj claimed she “absolutely” was spending time in her kitchen making “Stake. Shrimp. Plus my famous cheeseburgers,” but she caused eyebrows to raise when she noted that she’s “been rlly [sic] having red meat cravings and then salad cravings with extra jalapeños.”

Her response resulted in another fan asking if she was “also throwing up in the morning and having to go to the bathroom a lot?”
Minaj continued with her typical social media teasing and wrote, “Lmao. No throwing up. But nausea and peeing non stop. Omg what do u think this means guys???? Lmaooooooooooo.”
She later said she would post a photo of her baby bumps “in a couple of months,” when a fan asked for proof of her pregnancy. “The world ain’t ready yet,” Minaj added.
The 37-year-old has talked about her desires of becoming a mother long before she exchanged vows with Petty. Back in 2015, Minaj told Cosmopolitan magazine that she hoped of having at least two kids by 2025.
“Ten years from now, I will have two children, unless my husband wants three. I will be into my fitness a lot more, I will stop yo-yo dieting, and I’ll be a housewife with careers that I can run from home. I want to be able to cook for my children, bake cookies for them, and watch them grow up. I just want to be mommy. Take them to school, go to the parent-teacher conference, help them with their homework, and put their work on the refrigerator,” Minaj said.
Around the time of the release of her third album, 2014’s The Pinkprint, Minaj discussed her biggest fears with Complex magazine and listed not having children as one of the biggest.
“That I’ll become so consumed with work that I’ll forget to live my personal life to the fullest. If I’m done with my fifth album and I don’t have a child by then, no matter how much money I have, I would be disappointed, as a woman, because I feel like I was put here to be a mother,” she said, adding that she wanted to be married before she giving birth.
“I’d rather not do anything that’s going to be on paper but I definitely will be married before I have my baby. I want to make sure I do it in that order. I’ve always felt like that since I was young; my mother always put that in my head,” she continued.
Minaj’s most recent album, her fourth titled Queen, released in August 2018. She exchanged vows with husband Petty the following year in October.
