For now, seeing the student and teacher go head to head in recruiting will have to suffice.

And Thursday provided a taste of the competitiveness between the two.

Four-star QB Jake Fromm decommitted from Alabama and committed to his in-state Bulldogs.

Here’s basically what happened:

— Former Georgia coach Mark Richt and his staff didn’t offer Fromm.

— Alabama did.

— Like athletes are prone to do, Fromm felt spurned and decided beating the Bulldogs was the best remedy. So he committed to Alabama.

— New Georgia coach Kirby Smart offered Fromm a scholarship in December and things began tilting in the Dogs’ favor.

“I feel really strongly about it but I didn’t want playing football at Georgia to be the only thing," Fromm told 247Sports. “I wanted Georgia to also be the best place for me to be succeed as a person. Everything Georgia has to offer right now is the best place for me to strive and be the best person and football player I can be.”

Despite the defection, Alabama remains No. 2 in the team recruiting rankings for 2017. Georgia is seventh.

BRADLEY: Saban not going anywhere; neither is Bama

The Crimson Tide signed four-star, dual-threat QB Jalen Hurts for their 2016 class and five-star Blake Barnett in 2015.

Georgia didn’t sign a quarterback in 2015, but just brought in five-star Jacob Eason, an early enrollee who will participate in spring practice.
