The NHL’s Situation Room in Toronto was called into action once again to set the record straight Sunday night during the second period of Game 6 between the Golden Knights and Sharks.

Late in the frame, Vegas defenseman Nate Schmidt fired a shot that hit the underside of the crossbar and bounced back into the play off of the goal line camera. Both the teams and referees failed to realize that the puck had actually crossed the goal line and so play continued for 25 seconds until Toronto stopped play via the SAP Center’s goal horn.

Here is the league’s full explanation of the situation:

It may have been a bit unorthodox, but in the end Schmidt’s second goal of the postseason was correctly awarded to give Vegas a 2-0 lead.

The Golden Knights went on to win the game 3-0 to seal their spot in the Western Conference finals.
