Sunday’s night’s game capped a day full of contests with playoff implications. The biggest shocker of the day was the Miami Dolphins going to New England and taking down the Patriots, 27-24. The Patriots would have locked up the No. 2 seed in the AFC and first-round bye with a win, but instead fell to the No. 3 seed after the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Los Angeles Chargers to overtake the second seed.
With the 49ers win, all top seeds from the NFC going into Sunday won their games and held pat. The Green Bay Packers came from behind to beat the Detroit Lions on a last-second field goal. The Packers retained the second seed and first-round bye. The New Orleans Saints throttled the Carolina Panthers and held onto the third seed with a 13-3 record.
The Philadelphia Eagles held off the New York Giants to win the NFC East ahead of the Dallas Cowboys, which were eliminated on Sunday.
The Tennessee Titans went into Houston and defeated the Texans to grab the final AFC wild card spot, thus eliminating the Pittsburgh Steelers and Oakland Raiders from contention.
