The player getting the most attention was Heisman winner and projected No. 1 overall pick Joe Burrow, whose hand size measured just 9 inches — the third smallest among QBs at the combine (Georgia’s Jake Fromm had the second smallest hands at 8.875 inches, Princeton’s Kevin Davidson the smallest at 8.25 inches). To put Burrow’s hands in perspective, Kyler Murray, the diminutive 5-foot-10 quarterback who was selected first overall by the Arizona Cardinals, was measured at 9.5 inches.
Other standout measurements among QBs include Oregon’s Justin Herbert, who was the tallest at the combine at 6-6.25 inches; Utah State’s Jordan Love, who had the widest wingspan at 80 inches; and Michigan State’s Brian Lewerke, who had the biggest hands at 10.625 inches.
Standing out among the wide receivers, Clemson’s Tee Higgins showed off his impressive frame, including an 81-inch wingspan. Arizona State’s Brandon Aiyuk may have been the surprise of the group though. Aiyuk, despite being one of the shortest receivers at the combine at 5-11.625 inches, had one of the widest wingspans at 80 inches.
Notre Dame’s Cole Kmet has already drawn early comparisons to Rob Gronkowski at tight end, and those comparisons are likely to continue with their combine measurements being so similar (Gronkowski: 6-6.25 inches tall, 258 pounds, 34.25-inch arms; Kmet: 6-5.75 inches tall, 262 pounds, 33-inch arms). Also catching eyes among tight ends was LSU’s Stephen Sullivan, who had the widest wingspan of the day with 85 inches (that’s over seven feet!).
Running back, offensive line and specialist measurements were taken on Tuesday morning.
Jonathan Taylor stood out as having one of the most well-rounded frames among running backs, weighing in at 226 pounds. That solid build should only continue to help him at the next level as he projects to be an every-down back.
Mekhi Becton proved to be the big behemoth everyone was expecting at offensive tackle, measuring in at 6-7.375 inches and 364 pounds.
Here is an aggregation of the most notable measurements by position at the NFL Combine, according to Yahoo Sports’ Charles Robinson, who dutifully compiles the numbers on Twitter.
