On Monday, New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced that one of the migrants who was relocated to the city died by suicide the day prior in a city-owned facility after being “traumatized by this whole experience.” Asked by WNYC’s Elizabeth Kim whether the woman’s death represented a failure by the city to identify someone in crisis, Adams said no, blaming it on the decisions of Republican officials who “sent people on multi-day bus rides” instead....

“After very careful consideration, I announce today that New York City public schools will remain closed for the remainder of this school year. There is nothing easy about this decision,” de Blasio said during a coronavirus press briefing. The mayor originally had schools set to open up on April 20, after spring break. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo then said schools would be remained closed until April 29. The New York City school year typically ends at the end of June....

Obama’s speech at the virtual convention recalled his Oval Office meeting with the newly elected Trump. Let’s start with the Super Bowl line. Don’t get worked up about the point spread movement in Super Bowl 49. Two Sundays later, the Broncos were 2.5-point favorites when the big game commenced. As you recall, the underdog won by 35 points. All that Denver money gone, a good deal of it redistributed among Seattle backers....

Underdogs started the season well, but recent weeks have belonged to the favorites. Favorites posted an 8-6 record in Week 6 but had an impressive 8-2 showing in the Sunday main slate. Will that continue into Week 7? It might be a bit tougher for that to happen. There are three games in Week 7 that feature massive spreads of 12.5 or more. The Bucs, Rams, and Cardinals are all heavily favored in their matchups with the Bears, Lions, and Texans....

The U.S. Third Circuit Court of Appeals is expected to hear the latest round of appeals to the $1 billion settlement sometime this fall. The BIAA, the nation’s oldest non-profit brain-injury advocacy organization, filed the amicus brief Thursday.
