Trailing 28-14 early in the third quarter, the Patriots used a formation that confused the Ravens. On three plays, the Patriots used four offensive linemen, but had a skill-position player (RB Shane Vereen did it twice, TE Michael Hoomanawanui, once) disguised as an offensive lineman. In each case, Vereen and Hoomanawanui reported as an ineligible receiver, but split wide on the line, confusing the Ravens on which players to cover....

The history of each extreme start is well-documented. Since 2007, 57 percent of NFL teams that have opened 2-0 have made the playoffs. During that same 13-year span, 89 percent of teams that have fallen to 0-2 have failed to make the playoffs. In its statement from a Jan. 18 court filing, the NFL claimed Jami Cantor, the woman who made the allegations, “approved, consented to, authorized, and/or ratified” the conduct based on her actions. Cantor made the claims against several NFL Network employees. That list includes TV personalities Marshall Faulk, Heath Evans, Ike Taylor, Warren Sapp, Donovan McNabb, Eric Davis and network executives Eric Weinberger and Marc Watts.
