Speaking with co-host Vic Carucci and me Tuesday on SiriusXM NFL Radio, Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff said the team should have a new deal done with cornerback Desmond Trufant “very soon.” Dimitroff also said the team was “confident that something can get wrapped up” with running back Devonta Freeman later this year. The 2017 installment of Thanksgiving Day football features a tripleheader for the 12th consecutive season. The tradition of Thanksgiving Day and NFL football in general, however, is more historic. The NFL had often expressed hope that moving the deadline to after Week 8 would spark trade action across the league. There had been speculation in previous seasons that a lot of action would come at the deadline, but there were rarely many big-time results. New England has “talked with Minnesota” about a potential deal for Kyle Rudolph, according to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated. The NFL’s TV numbers slide has infected long-running pregame shows on ESPN, NBC Sports and CBS Sports. The hardest hit has been ESPN’s “Sunday NFL Countdown” (10 a.m. to 1 p.m. ET), which has lost 15 percent of its viewership. With Samantha Ponder succeeding Chris Berman as host after 31 years, ESPN’s “Countdown” has averaged 1.138 million viewers through the first nine weeks of the 2017 season. That’s down 14....
