Add to those woes the sky-high cost of health care, uneven access and relatively poor outcomes, it’s clear the American public has been living for decades with a health system that is failing....

Dave Williams stunned everyone with his rendition of “Unchained Melody” by The Righteous Brothers. But the virtuoso performance would have come as no shock to those who knew Williams as he had previously sang with The Beatles - three times. Staff at Park View Nursing Home in Liverpool, England, had organized a picnic party with games and refreshments for their residents, family and friends on July 23. The NFL has announced Thursday it will hold a veteran combine March 22 at the Cardinals’ facility in Phoenix. The event will “serve to isolate and consolidate veteran free-agent talent for more focused evaluation on a comparative basis,” the league said in a memo to all 32 teams. About 100 veteran free agents will be selected through an application process. Those chosen will have a chance to work out in front of representatives from every NFL team....

Many rookie passers struggle off the bat, but if they have season-defining moments that suggest they can have long-term success, then there is reason for optimism. And, in a dismal season in which the Cardinals finished 3-13, Rosen enjoyed such moments. He led the Cardinals on a fourth-quarter comeback against the 49ers and also helped them to a surprise victory over the Packers at Lambeau Field. Playing behind a dreadful offensive line, the fact Rosen was able win three games was a minor miracle....

The Cardinals are reportedly expected to pick the former Oklahoma star at No. 1. Some have said it’s a near lock Murray will end up in Arizona, but general manager Steve Keim told reporters earlier this week the team has not made a decision about who it will draft. “The fact that I don’t know what we’re doing but everyone else does, that’s concerning," Keim said. “We are not done with this process....

But in ‘21, the NFL Draft will be hosted in Cleveland. There will be some events with limited capacity to ensure safety amid the ongoing pandemic, and some prospects will be invited to attend. Not all will go, including presumptive No. 1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence, but again, this represents a bit of a return to normalcy for the league after a trying year. NFL Chief Medical Officer Allen Stills, in a Friday conference call, expressed disappointment in the data, which also includes totals for ACL and MCL tears. But he did note a silver lining, referring to the fact 28 percent of concussions were self-reported, compared to just 19 percent in 2016. Early TV ratings reports show viewership is down in prime-time games and in featured national telecasts. The NFL Kickoff game on NBC was down from a year ago, and the Week 3 “Sunday Night Football” telecast between major markets Dallas and Chicago was down 7 percent from 2015 (Denver-Detroit). That’s pretty significant when you consider the market sizes. We also have seen the two lowest-rated “Monday Night Football” telecasts since at least 2009, which includes a Week 2 snoozer between Philadelphia and Chicago....

The franchise tag allows a team to keep a player on a top-dollar contract for one year.
